More on Kalsarpa Yoga-I
For the past few months(or would I say years) a mystic yoga called Kalsarpa Yoga is
getting primary importance before reading a chart.I find most of the astrologers, specially in yahoo jyotish
forums negating any kind of good yogas in the chart, when the native is facing a temporary hurdle, in course
of time, claim that the obnoxious Kal Sarpa Yoga is responsible for the impediments in the toughtime.
In one of my articles, I have discussed about its origin, its level of truth, with references from classical astrology,
& some examples, not realtime, but quite relevent.
Before I proceed further, as a recap, I will explain the definition of Kal Sarpa Yoga or the combination
for Kal sarpa yoga. It is that all planets are supposed to be within the Rahu Ketu Axis, so that on the other side,
there is no planet. This forms the Kal Sarpa Yoga. We know that Parasara, Varahamihira or writers of middle ages, like
Vaidyanath have spoken about Sarpa Yoga, where malefics are in quadrants with respect to Lagna, while there should not be
any benefics in any of those houses(the opposite being "Srak" yoga). The results ascribed to Sarpa yoga is that the person
born with such yogas, is said to have many miseries. Well, if not misery, those people may not have a smooth life,
as planets in Kendra have a say on the native's fortune/fate.
Now a question arises, how did this Sarpa Yoga had a "Kal" added to it??If "Kal" is added to anything, then
generally it creates a fright on the people hearing such word or possessing anything like this, as "Kal" denotes time,
death etc.
Anyways let's come back to the topic. Now this Kal Sarpa Yoga has got 12 types. Those are named after 12 nagas as considered
auspicious in Hindu religion.Let me quote them for your reference with various combinations:-
1. Anant Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in Lagna, Ketu in seventh house: The person is prone to be target of conspiracies hatched by people supposedly close to him. The person is likely to lose out in matters of courts. Married life would be marred by differences between husband and wife.
2. Kulika Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in second house, Ketu in eighth: This combination is not good for the person's health. Expenses would be more then the income and the financial situation would remain fairly mediocre. He has to struggle a lot in life to achieve something.
3. Vasuki Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in third house, Ketu in ninth: The person would have trouble dealing with his brothers and friends. Travel to foreign countries would create problems. The person having this combination in his chart should take precautions in deals by paying extra attention towards legal documentation.
4. Shankapal Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in fourth house, Ketu in tenth: The person with this combination would never be satisfied with his financial situation and would always strive for more. The person is prone to troubles relating to immovable property - e.g. land, houses and modes of conveyance - e.g. cars.
5. Padma Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in fifth house, Ketu in eleventh: The person would have trouble with children. The person should never try his luck in lottery, share markets, and anything where speculation is involved.
6. Mahapadma Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in sixth house, Ketu in twelfth: The person would not do well in relationships and would have a very pessimistic view of life.
7. Takshak Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in seventh house, Ketu in first: There is a need for the person to be extra careful in matter relating to married life and business partnerships.
8. Karkotik Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in eighth house, Ketu in second: The person does not benefit from any paternal property. There would be a lot of trust issues between the person and his friends. This combination is not good for health and Rahu being in eighth house is usually not considered good as it indicates a sudden and violent death.
9. Shankhnaad Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in ninth house, Ketu in third: This combination indicates problems from higher authorities, government of the day and local administration in the field of business and commerce.
10. Paatak Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in tenth house, Ketu in fourth: Rahu being in tenth house indicates problem in employment and higher authorities whom the person would report to during his/her job.
11. Vishakt Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in eleventh house, Ketu in fifth: This combination indicates a lot of problems between the person and his elder brother. The person would also remain away from his native place throughout his life. The person would be prone to problems like heart trouble, insomnia etc.
12. Sheshnag Kalsarpa Yoga - Rahu in twelfth house, Ketu in sixth: The person would be prone to problems from people whom he does not know - mysterious enemies.
I hope you have gone through this exhaustive list. Now there is a common practise amongst many erudite astrologers, who strongly advocate
this "created" combination, to term a KSY as KAY, if they find that despite having such yoga, the concerned native's never seemed to have problems in their life till death.
I dont call such people quacks, as they are well aware that KSY doesn't find place in classical astrology. They are frauds & cheaters.
The followers of this so-called "Yoga" (dosha for many)also recommend years of sufferance. However, it is quite controversial
& writers of those years know what is the truth.
This "yoga" seems to have originated from Southern part of India(if I am not wrong, it first came up in a book called "Nadi Jyotish"
by Meenlagna or "Meena") & later it spreaded like an "epidemic" in the country & PS Sastri once quoted in Astrological Magazine
a sloka which was however, for mundane astrology, not natal astrology.
Let me quote Shree K N Rao's take on KSY:-
"Here the astrologer, ever ready with a remedy, is in demand. This astrologer must first create fright in the minds of his clients and it is done most easily by pointing out Kala-sarpa Yoga or even half Kala-sarpa Yoga. Here he promises to perform a yagna at a cost of some thousands of rupees for shantis. This is the prerogative of the Brahmins.
So Kala-sarpa Yoga is a big and newly discovered source of income of Brahmins which is pitiable. Brahmins were meant to be the beacon lights of dharma and spirituality if they themselves reached higher stage of sadhana. But so many of them have become KAAL SARPA YOGIS ."(From KSY-Why such a fright??)
Again from Mr.Rao's website:-
"The ugly and baseless Kaal Sarpa Yoga keeps raising its head again and again because there are astrologers who make huge money out of it by frightening their clients. A great need exists to fight this legally boldly.
From time to time people come to me and tell me how they have been asked to do shanti for KSY and how nothing has altered in their lives even after getting shanti. I asked them if they had put in proper and timely efforts and had done their poojas properly. If they had, they would overcome most of their problems partly or fully without getting exploited by these cheats who pose as astrologers and talk of KSY.
From time to time people come and pester me with question and I have various arguments some of which I am summarising briefly for the benefit of many here.
.........
In the history of Hindu religion there has been a well known controversy between Karmakanda and Gyanakanda though they complement each other and one leads to the other. Who would have thought that a new branch would spring which I call FRAUDKANDA and Kaal Sarpa Yoga is an integral part of it now, though it has no basis at all in Jyotisha !! But that is Kaliyuga.
......"
Anyways, Late Shree BV Raman has equally said that chart reading must have a balanced view. Reading a chart, with a lop-sided attitude towards KalSarpa Yoga is unethical.
Now these KalSarpa Yogis also say that people having KalSarpa Yoga have a dreaded Rahu or Ketu Dasa or both, if one is fortunate enough. Some other yogis say that it will happen lifetime.I have no issues in that.
I always say, be it Ayanamsha or KSY, if I am proved wrong with at least 100 charts, I am ready to accept this.
Now time for a realtime chart.
This is a friend's chart.
This is an example of the typical Kalsarpa Yoga as the "Yogis of Kalsarpa" say.
All planets are well within Rahu & Ketu, to the extent of degrees. As per the above classifications, the native has Bishakt Kalsarpa Yoga. The results ascribed to it are:-Rahu in eleventh house, Ketu in fifth: "This combination indicates a lot of problems between the person and his elder brother. The person would also remain away from his native place throughout his life. The person would be prone to problems like heart trouble, insomnia etc".
This native has gone through Rahu Mahadasa when he was 2 years old till the age of 20--for these 18 years. As I firmly dont believe in this Yoga, I thought of taking up this chart for personal analysis, reference & later cross-checking with the native who has such yoga.
Let us see what may have happened in this Dasa.
Rahu is in 11th house, aspected by Jupiter, lord of 6th house & 9th house from 5th house. Rahu himself aspects planets like Mercury(lord of 3rd house & 12th house), Jupiter, Ketu, native's 7th house & 10th house.
Maharshi Parasara in BPHS says that Rahu & Ketu are "impotent" enough to give results of its own. However, Rahu is giver of wealth & Ketu is of Moksha. These nodes
gives results of planets they are aspected by, the condition of its dispositor, & planets they are conjuncted with.
In the chapters of Dasa in Brihat Parasara Shastra, Rahu is said to give good effect in signs from Aries through Virgo, specially if they happen
to be Upachayas. Here in this chart, results will be good, with some health issues, as Rahu is being aspected by 6th lord, however,
the native will be cured. His studies will be good, again, when the dasa is about to end,it will cause some distractions in studies.
I asked my friend, whether he had any odd period during these span of 18 years in his life. He said none, except few health issues & some distractions from studies,
in the fag end, some distractions from studies, due to involvement in romance.
Even I was able to pin-point to health issues must have occurred in the year between 1995-1996. The dasa was of Rahu-Ketu & Rahu-Venus.
Ketu has more power to cause disease than Venus, who assure cure in this case.
After my initial analysis, I asked him someone liners & let me paste his answers.
Mr.A.C.-- Was admitted to school in the year 1986.
Mr.A.C.-- Visited US with parentsin the year 1987.
Mr.A.C.-- Some family problems in 1991.
Mr.A.C.-- Grandmother expired in the year 1995
Mr.A.C.-- Suffered from Typhoid & jaundice in year 1996.
Mr.A.C.-- Neglected studies from 1996-1998.
Mr.A.C.-- Passed ICSE in the year 1999 with good percentage.
Mr.A.C.-- Passed ISC in the year 2001 with good percentage.
Mr.A.C.-- Took admission in college to do B.Com, in the year 2001.
So from these incidents which took place in Rahu Mahadasa it is evident that Kalsarpa Yoga never played a role in this case. What will Kalasarpa yogis say now???I know they
have to got to save themselves by saying their own creation which they call as "Kal Amrita Yoga".
I will continue to protest against such misconceptions in Astrology---directly or indirectly.I will do that at any cost---be it
considered by a "big-brother" in this subject or a "novice"junior.I will write more on this topic in the next few weeks, with some examples of realtime charts.
